Mike Trepte House

Mike Alvin Trepte and his family built this house after a disastrous fire burned the original structure to the ground in 1936. Trepte was a German immigrant, originally Alwyn Tryte and he married Margueritte and adopted her daughter Eleanor.  Trepte divorced and married again. His wife Dorothy Wolfe, was a schoolteacher in Talkeetna.

The house has had several owners since Trepte.  Seven large spruce trees adorned the front lawn during a time when there were few other trees along Main Street.  In 2017, a spruce bark beetle infestation killed all 7 trees and “The House of 7 Trees” was no more.

It is now a merchandise store connected to the Denali Brewing Company.  (The building has changed significantly since it was built and likely does not qualify as a historic structure.)
